Career

Renard’s football career started as a player, where he was a defender for various French clubs. He represented AS Cannes, Stade de Vallauris, and SC Draguignan during his playing career from 1983 to 1998.

Renard began his coaching career with SC Draguignan, where he gained valuable experience. He then worked as an assistant at the Chinese side Shanghai Cosco under head coach Claude Le Roy from 2002 to 2003.

Renard’s coaching abilities were recognized when he was appointed the manager of English side Cambridge United in 2004.

He later managed the Vietnamese club Song Da Nam Dinh in the same year before moving on to AS Cherbourg in 2005. Renard also served as an assistant to Claude Le Roy for the Ghana national team.

In May 2008, Renard took on his first major managerial role as the manager of the Zambia national team. Under his guidance, Zambia reached the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals, marking a significant achievement for the team.

Renard’s success with Zambia continued as he led to victory in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, a historic win dedicated to the memory of the 18 players who tragically died in a plane crash in 1993.
