Nigerian Police Arrest Suspected Vandal, Recover Stolen Cables In Enugu

On Thursday, the Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force announced the arrest of a 23-year-old individual named Obieze Chigozie on suspicion of vandalizing electricity cables.

The suspect, the command's spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said was arrested on April 12, 2024 at about 5:30am by operatives serving in Trans-Ekulu Division, at Damijah Flyover while his gangs escaped.

The arrest followed credible information on the activities of the suspect and his cohorts.

According to the statement, "The suspect and his accomplices were alleged to have vandalised an electric power transformer in an estate at Damijah Flyover, Trans-Ekulu, Enugu. Yet-to-be ascertained lengths and sizes of armoured cables and a big cutting tool the suspect and others at large used in vandalising the transformer were recovered.

"A preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect confessed to having been previously involved in the act of vandalism, with others at large."

The command spokesman said that the suspect would be arraigned and prosecuted once investigations had been concluded.
