Rohr agrees to be Nigeria boss

The German has signed a contract to succeed Sunday Oliseh as permanent boss of the Super Eagles

Gernot Rohr has signed a two-year deal as technical adviser of the Nigeria's senior national team, the Nigeria Football federation (NFF) has announced on Tuesday.

The NFF announcement comes two days after its technical and development committee submitted the German tactician as its preferred candidate for the vacant Super Eagles job.

His appointment ends a long search for a substantive coach for the Super Eagles since Sunday Oliseh resigned.

The 63-year-old helped Bordeaux reach the Uefa Cup final in 1996 as which they lost to Bayern Munich.

Aside from that, he handled Nantes, Etoile du Sahel before managing the national teams of Gabon, Niger and Burkina Faso and was shortlisted for the job of head coach of Guinea in July.

Rohr, who has agreed to reside in Nigeria, is expected to begin his official assignment with the Super Eagles against Zambia on October 3 in the 2018 World Cup qualifier.

Nigeria have been drawn in the same group as Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
