Falcons set for showdown with NFF over $16,500-a-player bonus

The Super Falcons are set for a showdown with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the payment of $16,500 to each player, after they won this year’s African Women Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Nigeria defeated the hosts 1-0 on Saturday to retain their title.

However, Florence Omagbemi’s ladies are yet to be paid a dime as camp allowance or match bonus, top officials have told AfricanFootball.

The Falcons, who arrived in Lagos on Sunday, are supposed to get $3,000 each for a win in the AWCON group stages. Victory in the semi-finals will see them pick up another $4,000.

They are to be paid $5,000 per player, for beating the Indomitable Lionesses in the final, to claim a record 10th title.

This then means each player is being owed $16,500, as they won two group fixtures ($6,000) and drew with Ghana ($1,500).

Nigeria defeated South Africa in the semi-final ($4,000) and beat Cameroon ($5,000).

Top officials of the NFF have already addressed the team at their Agura Hotel base in Abuja and promised to pay their bonuses soon.

It was further understood that the NFF have applied for a bailout from the federal government, to enable them pay off the team.
