What are you going to do with N17m headphones?

We know how some products are tagged ‘luxury items’ because the makers have a certain calibre of people in mind when making such products.

For instance, Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus with 256GB of internal memory is its most expensive smartphone at about N600,000, while the cheapest is the 32GB iPhone 7 and that goes for almost N400,000.

Many of us reading this post do not earn that amount in a month. Don’t lie, don’t front, don’t even give that ‘my wealth is with the Lord’ line … many of you just can’t afford it.

And that’s a phone that can be very useful for you in many ways; which (finally) brings us to this headphone by acclaimed sound company, Sennheiser.

It’s not made of precious stones. The Pope did not bless it. Justin Bieber, Beyonce or some other superstar with a cult following aren’t the ‘brains’ behind it like Dr. Dre is with that of the competing Beats by Dre headphones.

So how is one headphone the price of a Mercedes Benz E-Class, or your dream wedding, or a plot of land in Lekki? Noooo, not THAT Lekki, I mean the Lekki after the fifth or sixth roundabout. Yes, that Lekki.

The Sennheiser Orpheus has left many tech writers in awe due to its $55,000 price tag. But imagine you owned one, how would you react if it falls down?

And just so one knows it’s not your regular headphone, it can only be tried out in a soundproof room at the back of the pop-up store where it is on sale in New York.

The store will be open until February next year. $55,000 for a headphone, who does that?
