Barcelona Sue Neymar For £8m Over Alleged Breach Of Contract

It is about to go down between Barcelona FC and Neymar as all indications shows that Barcelona is yet to get over the young star departure. Barcelona are suing Neymar for €8.5million (£7.8m) over an alleged 'breach of contract' caused by his world-record £198m transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

The club are demanding Neymar return a loyalty bonus paid after he renewed his Barcelona contract last October, less than a year before he signed for PSG.

Barca are also demanding an additional 10 per cent of that €8.5m as 'interest' they claim is owed due to a delay in repaying them the sum. The club say a lawsuit was first served to the player on August 11.

Barcelona are also demanding that PSG pay up the sum if Neymar is unable to.

A club statement read: 'FC Barcelona has sent the labour claim it made at a Barcelona labour court on August 11 to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) so that they can pass it on to the French Football Federation and FIFA, for legal purposes.

'In this claim, the club demands the player pay back a renewal bonus for a failure to honour his contract; €8.5m in damages and an additional 10 per cent in arrears.

'The club also demands that Paris Saint-Germain subsidise the payment of these amounts in the event that the player cannot take responsibility for them.

'FC Barcelona has promoted these actions in defence of its interests, after the unilateral rescission of the contract initiated by Neymar Jnr a few months after the signing of its renewal until 2021.'

Barca's legal move continues the bad blood between Neymar and his former employers since the transfer. He criticised the Barcelona board of directors after scoring on his home PSG debut.

Neymar said Barca will not be competitive on the European stage unless changes are made at the top of the club's hierarchy, and said the current situation makes him sad.

Neymar said after scoring twice on his home debut for PSG: 'When I arrived, everything started well, but at Barcelona, there are directors that shouldn't be there. I'm very sad with them.

'I had four very happy years there, but Barca deserve much better. I have a lot of friends there. I hope things get better for Barca and that they go back to being a team that can compete.'

On the pitch, meanwhile, the Brazilian has made a stellar start to life in Paris, scoring three goals in two games, including two as they thrashed Toulouse 6-2 to stay top of Ligue 1 on goal difference.
