Amokachi, Agbim target Yemen win

Daniel Amokachi has urged the Super Eagles to play at full throttle in Saturday’s friendly game against Yemen.

The Eagles assistant coach will be in the dugout at the Sevens Stadium, Dubai in United Arab Emirates, venue for the encounter scheduled to kick off at 5.30pm (Nigerian time).

The Nigerian side dominated by domestic league players lost 1-0 to Ivory Coast in a friendly affair in Abu Dhabi on January 12.
Tunisia ’94 Africa Cup of Nations winner Amokachi, who praised the team for their showing against the Elephants, told the players to put Ivory Coast defeat behind them with a victory in Dubai today.

“That is in the past now, we must all focus our minds on the next game (against Yemen) because we cannot afford another slip-up,” the senior national team Media Officer Ben Alaiya quoted Amokachi as saying in a statement on Friday.
Goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim said the team would strive to win the encounter,
“We know that Nigerians are still not too happy with us because we missed out on a place in the Africa Cup of Nations (in Equatorial Guinea) and we have to start getting their support through games like this,” Agbim said.

Meanwhile, the Golden Eaglets face Sokoto United in a friendly clash at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna on Saturday.

The national Under-17 side had been scheduled to play South Africa today in Abuja but the South Africa Football Association on Wednesday said the Amajimbos would not honour the game “due to circumstances beyond our control”.

The development forced the Nigeria Football Federation to arrange today’s game against Sokoto United to prepare the Eaglets for the Niger 2015 Africa Youth Championship next month.
