Premier League: Chelsea go 12 points clear after 3-1 win over Arsenal

Chelsea strengthened their position at the top of the Premier League, with a 3-1 win over rivals Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues came into the fixture, looking for revenge for their 3-0 drubbing at the Emirates last September and got off to a fine start.

Marcos Alonso gave them a first-half lead, leaping over Hector Bellerin to head past Petr Cech, after Diego Costa’s header came off the crossbar.

Eden Hazard scored one of the goals of the season, after running through half of the Arsenal team in the second half, to make it 2-0 to the hosts.

As the visitors struggled to get back into the game through the introduction of Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck, Cech’s loose pass found substitute Cesc Fabregas, who lifted the ball into an empty net.

There was still time for Giroud to grab a late consolation for Arsenal, who are now 12 points behind Antonio Conte’s men.
