FRSC reiterates commitment to review of fleet operations

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said it is committed to reviewing of fleet operations as part of its statutory mandate so as to reduce incessant road crashes on Nigerian roads.
In an exclusive interaction with DAILY POST in Abuja, the agency’s spokesman, Commandant Bisi Kazeem, noted that it is a tradition of the corps in a bid to enshrine best global practice in haulage and general road use in Nigeria, hence, they would always be interacting with fleet operators from time to time.

“It is incumbent on us having observed the trend of road crashes across the nation to invite fleet operators particularly those ones that were involved to do a review of their operations and that is what we have been doing,”,he said.

According him: “Corps Transport Standardisation Office which is in charge of data capture of accidents has recorded 10 crashes with 22 people killed, while 55 people were injured by Peace Mass Transit which has over 1,000 buses on its fleet within a period of six months”.

A situation he said, has been discussed with management of the fleet. While ruling out the possibility of blacklisting them, he added that the percentage of casualty can be reduced if the operators stick to safety tips offered to them.

“The Corps never blacklisted Peace Mass Transit or any other fleet operators for now, notwithstanding, the fact that PMT has 10 road crashes with 22 dead and 55 injured in six months and with safety tips offered them, it will reduce casualty on their part,” he emphasized.

He urged transport operators to take retraining and certification of their drivers seriously and to ensure the ban on sales of alcohol in their premises.
